Rovers Star Matt Canellis gets another four pointer in his 50th game for the club.
The Boorowa Rovers had its third agonising defeat in three games, this time going down in a thriller 20-16 against the second place North Canberra Bears. It’s been a frustrating month for the Rovers, whose ambition of finishing in the top three is all but gone. Boorowa got out to a healthy lead early against the Bears, who eventually ran down the Rovers, scoring four tries to three.
All teams now have five games remaining and a bye as they head into the business end of the season. The Rovers have an easier draw over the next month, playing three sides below them on the ladder before taking on Harden and Bungendore in the two games before the semi-finals. They should still finish in the top five, but their chances of finishing fourth and getting a home final may well hinge on the last game against Bungendore, who currently sit in fourth.
However, first things first, and this week Boorowa need to take care of business against the UC Stars at Raiders Belconnen. They can’t afford to take the students lightly on their home ground where they always grow a leg against the Rovers. The Stars have had a couple of recent wins, but really the Rovers should win and win well, boosting their for and against percentage, which could be critical by season’s end.
The Best and Fairest points last week went to Matt Canellis, who celebrated fifty games for the Rovers with three points in yet another game where he scored a try. His strike rate for scoring tries is phenomenal. Two points went to Will Fahey, who continues to deliver week in, week out, whilst Cooper Cross again led by example and picked up the one point. The Players Player mug went to Will Fahey.

In other GTS games last weekend, Bungendore 48 beat UC Stars 12, whilst Harden 38 beat Snowy River Bears 10 and Crookwell 50 beat Googong 4.
The league tag saw the Roverettes go down by 22-10 against the Bears. They are in a comparable situation as the men’s team having pushed the sides higher on the ladder. They are currently running fifth and should make the semi’s if they win an even share of games.

The Best and Fairest points went to Ella Cross with three, continuing her outstanding form. Two points went to Alice Dymock for her best game of the year and one point to Lily Porch for another big game at fullback. The Players Player went to Imogen Pye.
In other league tag games, Bungendore 66 beat Googong 0, Harden 70 beat Snowy River Bears 0 and Crookwell 34 beat the UC Stars 0.
In other GTS games to be played this weekend, Googong host Snowy River Bears, Crookwell take on North Canberra at Crookwell and in the match of the round Bungendore will host Harden.
The next home game for Boorowa will be on Saturday week, July 11 against the Googong Goanna’s.
