Boorowa played a home game against Young Yabbies on Saturday, which saw Boorowa decisively beat them 29 – 10. The Goldies struggled to get off to a good start, allowing Young to get a converted try in early.
It wasn’t long before Boorowa warmed up and put on three tries in the first half with their dominant scrum. The half-time score was 15-10 to the Gold, in what the Club called one of the best halves of bush footy you will see this season from both teams.
The second half came down to the Goldies’ scrum and lineout, which proved to be what got the win. Poppy grabbed a try after a cross-field kick by Golden was then put on the toe again by Hicky and finished off by the Veteran.
Captain Keagan Size played well in the forwards, grabbing a 5-pointer of his own, saying it was a good win for the Goldies.
“They are still a quality side, and definitely, if you didn’t play good footy, they would have beaten you,” he said.
“Our set piece got us the win there. Scrum and lineout were really dominant.
“We had a good crowd. A good following for a standard Saturday arvo of footy.
“This week we have a bye, and then we head into our ladies’ day against Harden, so it’s a top-of-the-table clash.
“We will be refining our set piece, making sure that it’s going to be shining a light on them. We want to bully them in the forwards and match them in the backs, and if we do that, the game and the score line will take care of itself.”
The Goldilocks have suffered in numbers throughout the season and had to face a very strong Young side. Captain Kimbo scored a great 5 pointer under the sticks, Harmony and Jess made strong line breaks, but despite their spirit, Young was too overwhelming for the girls.
A hard, but still great game.
Now Boorowa looks to its Ladies Day on July 11 against Harden, but not before a well-earned bye this weekend.
