On Wednesday, 24 June, Hilltops Council resolved to allocate money to the Boorowa Grandstand renovation project using funds from the sale of 66 Pudman Street, Boorowa.
The motion, as allocated by Councillor James Blackwell, was unanimously endorsed by all Hilltops councillors and sales from the council property will go towards the replacement of the Boorowa Grandstand and other infrastructure in the former Boorowa LGA.
Currently, no set fund amount have been directly allocated to the Boorowa Grandstand Committee and Acting Hilltops General Manager, Sarah Karaitiana, says they will continue to work closely with the Committee when more information becomes available.
“We will contribute the funds that are needed for the grandstand, and any additional funds will go into holding for investment for the community,” she says.
The motion follows recent concerns raised by community members for the loss of Boorowa’s historic buildings over time, and the funding has raised hope for a sustained historic future.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for council to be able to invest in something that’s really important to the Boorowa community,” says Ms Karaitiana.
“It’s a way that we are able to help [the Grandstand Committee] make that contribution towards something that will be around for a long time.
“Something that will be useful in the community for years to come.”
66 Pudman Street in Boorowa was deemed surplus to Council’s operational requirements and the sale of the asset greatly assists the community to restore and preserve the grandstand for future generations.
