Boorowa’s league teams went on a point scoring frenzy last Saturday against the Googong Goannas with both the Rovers and Roverettes still hopeful of climbing the ladder and scoring a home semi-final.
The Rovers dominated from the outset with the opening try after just two minutes to James Sykes, racing in five more tries for a halftime lead of 36-4. Googong had no answer to the Rovers punishing forward pack that created room for the speedy backline to capitalise on. After halftime, it was more of the same with six more tries including a treble to Cooper Cross in the space of twenty minutes. Cooper had a points haul of thirty-two for the match with ten conversions. To their credit, Googong scored a couple of tries late in the second half and never stopped trying.
The three Best and Fairest points went to the skipper Cooper Cross, who continues to lead by example. Two points went to Fergus Munns who produced some outstanding runs threatening to break the line every time he touched the ball. Josh Noakes had another solid game and picked up one point. Fergus Munns was also the Players Player.
With a couple of additional recruits, including the return of Austin Power at fullback, the side is looking good heading towards the pointy end of the season.

In the only other George Tooke Shield game last weekend, Harden 34 defeated Crookwell 4 whilst Bungendore, Snowy River Bears, UC Stars and North Canberra all had a bye.
The league tag saw the Roverettes, do a similar demolition job on Googong winning 40 –0 in a try scoring romp. The girls were ruthless against an outgunned Goanna team piling on nine tries in a total route. Like the Rovers, the girls are building nicely towards the semis and provided they can stay injury free, the team can make a real run come semi-final time.
The Best and Fairest points went to Imogen Pye, three points, Lily Porch got two points for another big game at full back and Rachel Stewart got the one point in the halves guiding the side like a conductor. The Players Player was Gen Carmody who continues her good form all season.

This Saturday sees a bye for both Boorowa teams who are now focusing on the run home with just four games left. The run home for both teams sees them play the Snowy River Bears (Away), Harden (At home), Bungendore (Home) and finishing with the deferred round against the UC Stars away. Both teams should win at least two of those games and cement a finals spot, however if they can manage a victory against Bungendore and/or Harden, a higher position and a home final is a real possibility.
The two matches to be played this weekend are Bungendore taking on the Snowy River Bears and the UC Stars go up against the North Canberra Bears. The following Saturday, the teams have a tough road trip to Jindabyne which makes the Crookwell game in winter looking like a day in the tropics. It’s a big month ahead for the teams as the race for a premiership intensifies. Enjoy your footy.
