Last weekend saw the Boorowa Senior league teams have their final bye of the season and now all roads lead to the final series in just over a month. There are four rounds left in the regular season with every competition point now crucial in the race to the play offs.
Boorowa will travel to tropical Jindabyne this Saturday in a must win game for both the Rovers and Roverettes. A win too both teams would virtually seal a semi-final berth with just three rounds left after this week. The Snowy Bears won’t make life easy on their home batch where conditions will favour the locals.
In other games this week, Crookwell takes on Bungendore at home for a clash that could have a huge bearing on fourth and fifth spot in the GTS. Harden travel to North Canberra in a match that could decide the minor premiership, and the UC Stars take on the Googong Goanna’s who are still searching for their first win.
Whilst four teams had the bye last week there was a couple of games played. In the George Tooke Shield, North Canberra 40 beat the UC Stars 4 whilst Bungendore 28 beat a tenacious Snowy Bears team 18. In the league tag, Bungendore 38 beat Snowy Bears 4 and North Canberra 34 beat the UC Stars 6.
The ladder for the George Tooke Shield sees Harden 20, North Canberra 16, Crookwell 14, Bungendore 12, Boorowa 8 Snowy River Bears 4, UC Stars 4, Googong 0.
The Roverettes currently sit in fifth spot, although they deserve to be closer to the top of the ladder. They have become stronger as the year has progressed and if they do secure a finals spot, they will be feared by their rivals.
The ladder for the league tag sees Harden 19, North Canberra 18, Bungendore 13, Crookwell 10, Boorowa 10, Snowy River Bears 6, UC Stars 4, Googong 0.
Boorowa will return home on Saturday week for a block buster clash against the Harden Hawks. The day will be Old Boy’s Day when the players of years gone by celebrate the glory days both on and off the park. Taking on the Hawks will be a challenge but the Rovers went within a whisker of beating Harden in round one and will be full of confidence ahead of this clash. Mark it in your diary for August 1, it’s going to be a ripper.
