Boorowa’s senior league teams have both scored back-to-back wins last weekend this time defeating the Snowy River Bears. The Rovers dominated from the opening whistle cruising to a big win by 58-6 to boost their for and against which cruelly went against them last season. They showed little mercy running in ten tries to one and look to be gaining in confidence every week. Meanwhile the league tag girls had to work hard for their win but in the end just had a little too much talent as they prevailed by 24-0.
Both Boorowa teams have now forced their way into the top four of their respective competitions after a sluggish start to the season but with a bit more depth in the squads, they are now looking to threaten the competitions front runners. They will face a huge challenge against the Harden Hawks and Hawkettes on Saturday week but will fancy themselves winning against their arched rivals.
Even though they had a couple of key players missing, the Rovers showed there is no shortage of depth in the club as they accounted for the Snowy River Bears with ease. The tone for the day was set very early after two minutes when Nick Stephens crossed for the first Boorowa try. They scored four more and led by 28-0 after 25 minutes as the Bear’s Day went from bad to worse when they lost a player to the sin bin. To their credit the Bears pulled a try back to go into half time at 28-6.
That would be the last time the scorer would be troubled by the Bears as Boorowa score five more tries in the second half. The last try was scored by the veteran Alex Stewart who has crossed his name off the end of season nudie run. Cooper Cross had a superb day with the boot with nine out of ten conversions on a very trying day for kickers. Overall, it was a good win for the Rovers, with a nice boost to their percentage and no injury concerns.
The Best and Fairest three points went to Joe Prosper who is really making his mark as a key forward this season. Two points went to Tristan Mears who was unlucky not to get a hat trick of tries but had a great game. One point went to Mr reliable, Will Fahey whose versatility in the backline is invaluable. Players player went to the very deserving Logan Mears who was thrust into the hooker’s jersey on the weekend and didn’t disappoint looking like a 200-game veteran in the dummy half roll.

The Roverettes had a more challenging game than the lads as they battled out a low scoring first half. Boorowa scored first through Emma Craig after just two minutes, and it looked like there would be plenty of points on offer. But that would be it for the first half as both teams engaged in some great defence.
The Bears had their chances midway through the half but were stopped when Mackella Pye pulled off a try saving tag followed by an equally good tag by Imogen Pye. After leading 4-0 at the break, Boorowa scored an early try in the second stanza through Mackella Pye. Cheyenne Grocott Robins was next to cross after ten minutes and at 14-0 it appeared that Boorowa was almost home. The Bears mounted some attacking raids but errors at crucial times, cost them dearly.
Late in the game, Boorowa scored two more tries with Mackella Pye scoring from long range before Lilly Porch drove the final nail into the Bears coffin with the final try. The score finished at 24-0, but to be fair to the Bears it didn’t reflect how close the game was.

In other George Tooke Shield games last weekend, Harden 22 beat North Canberra 16 to become the only team not to have lost this season. Crookwell 32 pulled off a huge win over Bungendore 14 on the Tigers home patch. The final game saw the UC Stars 32 beat Googong 20 as predicted last Thursday in a massive 118 point turn around after the Stars lost the previous week by 106 points.
In other league tag games last Saturday, Harden 42 beat North Canberra 22, Bungendore 20 beat Crookwell 4, and UC Stars 24 beat Googong 6.
This weekend sees a general bye for the Kings Birthday long weekend before the teams travel to Harden on Saturday June 13 to take on the Hawks and Hawkettes.
