It was a tough and muddy day at Grenfell on Saturday, but the Goldies persevered to win 36 – 15. A few injuries meant late shake-ups in the team, which Grenfell took advantage of to score two tries.
Boorowa then fought back, resulting in two penalty tries to gain some momentum. Adam Hick finished off a counterattack in the corner to lead by halftime.
It wasn’t an easy game for Boorowa, who were facing a determined Grenfell outfit in terrible conditions. Tries to Keagan Size, George Chudleigh and Adam Hick put Boorowa in front and onto the path for victory. This wasn’t without hiccups as Benny Klose and Isaac Norton went off on injury.
Tom Richardson, Dylan Piper-Bye, The Harborne Brothers and Adam Hick were highlighted by the Club, with Luke Dean, Rob Strizaker, Bilbo and Tom Cook, who all provided direction and big plays in crucial moments.
Keagan Size, Captain of the team, said it was a solid win, but there is a lot to work on.
‘We controlled the ball somewhat well in horrible conditions, relied on our set piece through scrum and line out to maintain a fair bit of possession.
“It was a pretty sloppy game from both sides. To be completely honest, we struggled to handle the ball for any length of time. It was wet and muddy.
“This week, we take on Young at home, and we have just got to stick to our structures. We know what we do well and play to our strengths. We know not to be afraid to throw the ball around and play expensive footy into the back half of the season.
“Unfortunately, the ladies had to forfeit. They have had limited numbers to start. The Goldilocks squad numbers are low, and injuries haven’t helped the girls this season.
Boorowa will be at home this week with the Goldies and Goldilocks facing the Young Yabbies at the Showgrounds.
