It was a point scoring frenzy by the Boorowa league teams, who made light work of the Googong Goannas in both matches.
The Boorowa Rovers ran riot winning 68-4 whilst the Roverettes coasted to an easy win by 44-4 in the league tag. Both wins were badly needed for the teams to keep in touch with the competition front runners. The Rovers now sit in fifth position in the George Tooke shield whilst the Roverettes are just outside the top five in the league tag.
The Rovers posted six first-half tries to have the game wrapped up by the break before adding another six tries in the second stanza. It’s still only early in the season, but the signs are there that the side is becoming more settled and growing as a unit. There’s a lot of work still to be done, but they are heading in the right direction.
The Best and Fairest points last Saturday went to Joe Prosper with three points, Josh Dean got two points, and Matt Canellis got one point. Matt also picked up the Player’s Player award. Josh Dean was elusive and crossed for three tries against a bewildered Googong defence.

In other George Tooke Shield games last weekend, North Canberra 106 showed no mercy on the UC Stars 0. Bungendore 44 beat the Snowy River Bears
6 and Harden 24 defeated Crookwell 12 in a tough encounter.
The league tag saw the Roverettes put on a clinical display in disposing of Googong. Boorowa ran in eight tries to one and looked impressive running Googong ragged.
The Best and Fairest points went to Rachel Stewart who was everywhere picking up 3 points, Mackella Pye and Imogen Pye got 2 points and Ella Cross was great again getting 1 point. Players Player went to Rebecca Richmond, who continues to impress. Mackella Pye was in scintillating form, crossing for three tries.

In other league tag games, Snowy River Bears 18 beat Bungendore 8, North Canberra 28 defeated UC Stars 0 and Harden 16 beat Crookwell 6.
This Saturday sees the Boorowa teams play their first home game in a month against the Snowy River Bears. At home, the Rovers should win and win well, but the mountain men have at times this year, shown they can play some good footy.
The Bears league tag team is coming off a good win against Bungendore and won’t be easy for the Roverettes, but at home the girls should get the points.
In other George Tooke Shield games to be played this weekend, there are some mouth-watering clashes. The match of the day will see Harden host the North Canberra Bears. Both teams are unbeaten with the Bears being the big improvers of the season. They have recruited well and will start favourites in this game. Harden though, will be tough at home. Bungendore are at home to Crookwell in another clash that could go either way.
The final game is the battle of the cellar dwellers as Googong host the UC Stars with both sides searching for their first win. It’s hard to tip a side that got beaten by 106 points in their last start, but the Stars are better than that and should get home in a tight one. It’s another big day of league action at the Boorowa Showground and we hope to see you there.
