After having last Saturday off for Anzac Day, the George Tooke Shield resumes with round three
commencing tomorrow night in Boorowa. The Boorowa Rovers will take on the UC Stars in Friday Night Football. The match sees the teams competing for the Chris Turner Shield which holds special meaning for both these clubs.
Chris passed away back in 2015, and he had played with both these teams throughout his footy career forging many friendships along the way.
This will be a good game of footy with both teams searching for their first win. The UC Stars have shown promising signs in their first two games pushing Crookwell all the way in round two. The Rovers looked better in round two against the much-improved North Canberra Bears. If Boorowa can repeat their second half defensive effort from that game, their attack should do enough to get the win.
The Roverettes also hope to get their first win against the Stars who are winless as well. Boorowa hasn’t been far off a victory after returning to the competition this season.
Friday night is predicted to be a perfect evening weather wise, so a big local crowd is expected to attend. The league tag will commence at 7.15pm with the men’s kicking off at 8.30pm. It’s a perfect way to start the weekend before the annual picnic races on Saturday.
In other GTS games to be played this weekend North Canberra Bears host the Crookwell Green Devils, Snowy River Bears are at home against Googong, and the match of the round sees last year’s grand final replay between Harden and Bungendore at Harden. Harden, Crookwell, and North Canberra are all unbeaten but that will change come Saturday night.
It’s rare that we have Friday Night Footy and with great conditions forecast, why not get up to the
