Newhaven Park, the prominent thoroughbred stud in Boorowa, delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, selling 18 of 26 offered lots for a gross of $3,520,000 at an average of $195,556.
The family-owned operation, renowned for producing Group 1 winners like Cool Archie, showcased a draft emphasising quality, speed, and durability, attracting buyers from across Australia and beyond.
The sale, spanning January 13-18 at the Magic Millions complex, featured a combined Book 1 and Book 2 gross exceeding $212 million, with Book 1 alone achieving a clearance rate of 86% and an average of $273,000.
Newhaven Park’s results highlighted the market’s appetite for progeny from emerging sires like Stay Inside and Cool Aza Beel, with several lots fetching premium prices in a competitive environment.
In Book 1, Newhaven Park’s standout was Lot 442, a bay filly by Stay Inside (AUS) out of Lady Lily (USA) (by Nyquist), sold for $550,000 to Shane McGrath Bloodstock and Clinton McDonald Racing (VIC). The pedigree combines Stay Inside’s Group 1-winning speed with a dam from a high-performing American family.
Other notable Book 1 sales included:
• Lot 12: Bay filly by Harry Angel (IRE) out of Zorro Rapido (AUS) (by Toron-ado). Sold for $120,000 to Portelli Racing (NSW). This speedy type traces to a family of precocious runners.
• Lot 73: Bay colt by Best of Bordeaux (AUS) out of Audio (AUS) (by Zoustar). Fetched $200,000 to Dalziel Bloodstock/Moody Racing Pty Ltd (VIC). Bred for early maturity, with the dam a winner over sprint distances.
• Lot 74: Bay colt by Brave Smash (JPN) out of Avalon Girl (IRE) (by Invincible Spirit). Secured $80,000 by Grahame Begg Racing (VIC). International pedigree blending Japanese stamina with European speed.
• Lot 77: Bay filly by Cool Aza Beel (NZ) out of Awareness (AUS) (by Reset). Went for $160,000 to Mick Malone Bloodstock/O’Shea-Charlton Racing (NSW). Half-sister to stakes performers, suited to middle distances.
• Lot 92: Bay colt by Cool Aza Beel (NZ) out of Bee (AUS) (by Medaglia d’Oro). Passed in at $70,000 (reserve $80,000).
• Lot 529: Bay filly by Maurice (JPN) out of Medic (AUS) (by Medaglia d’Oro). Sold for $150,000 to Noble Racing/Robert & Luke Price (NSW). From a family with black-type depth.
• Lot 539: Bay colt by Cool Aza Beel (NZ) out of Mietta (AUS) (by Street Cry). Achieved $320,000 to Hancock Quality Bloodstock (FBAA) (WA). Pedigree emphasizes toughness and versatility.
Newhaven Park also presented lots in Book 2, including Lot 1026, a half-sister to recent winner Cool Jakey by Cool Aza Beel (NZ) out of Cool Snitzel (AUS) (by Snitzel), contributing to the stud’s overall success.
Another Book 2 highlight was Lot 1216, a colt by Cool Aza Beel (NZ) out of Win Fall (AUS), sold to Darby Racing.

This aligns with the stud’s track record, having produced recent Group 1 stars like Cool Archie from similar lines. Buyer feedback was positive, with Shane McGrath noting on the Stay Inside filly: “We’re big fans of Stay Inside. We’ve loved all his horses here in the catalogue and she was a filly we really honed in on. He’s a stallion that has already done the job and he’s an up-and-comer with the shape and make of the stock by him. Newhaven is a great producing farm and she’s out of a Grade 1 [performing] American mare. We just loved her.”
