The Harden/Boorowa Rugby League Club has secured a bright future for its junior program with the appointment of local product Alex Stewart (pictured with ball) as coach of the 2026 Under 16s team.
A Harden/ Boorowa junior through and through, Stewart brings deep club knowledge, proven leadership, and a decorated playing and coaching résumé to the role. Club officials highlighted Stewart’s intimate understanding of what the combined Harden/Boorowa entity represents.
As a product of the local pathways, he recognises the critical importance of building strong foundations at underage level to drive long-term success through to senior grades.
“Alex Stewart is a Harden/Boorowa junior, and understands exactly what this club stands for and recognises the importance of building strong foundations to ensure long-term success at senior level,” the club stated in its announcement.
Stewart’s football credentials speak volumes. He has amassed 150 senior games, earning accolades including Best & Fairest and Rookie of the Year in a first-grade side that went on to claim the prestigious Clayton Cup. He was selected for the Group 16 All Stars vs Indigenous match and represented Group 16 Under 23s for two seasons. Stewart also featured as a grand final player with Harden and served as captain/coach of the Boorowa Rovers for six seasons, guiding the team to finals every year without exception.
His coaching highlight came in 2023, when he led Boorowa to a premiership — breaking a long-standing drought for the club. That success underscored his ability to inspire and deliver results under pressure.
Stewart’s deep connection to the club, combined with his leadership qualities and premiership experience, positions him as an outstanding coach and role model for the next generation of Harden/Boorowa players. The club believes his appointment will foster not just on-field development but also the values of mateship, resilience, and community pride that define rugby league in the area.
