Boorowa continues to produce some amazing talent on the sporting arena and here are this year’s Australia Day nominees and winners.
U12’s Sports Person Nominees

The winner was Digby Merriman. Digby has excelled in several disciplines. He became the Aged Champion for BCS in Cross Country and Athletics. He represented Boorowa at District Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country. He competed at the Western Region swimming trials in the 50m Backstroke. He was selected in the Western Region cricket side that competed in the Primary School State Championships. He was also selected in the under 12’s South West Slopes Cricket representative side. He played in the under 12’s Young Rugby Premiership team and participated in the Western Region rugby trials. To round off the year he was also a part of the Young Lions Under 12’s soccer team.
U18’s Sports Person Nominees

The winner was Ivy Taylor. Ivy is also an all-round sports person. In swimming she was crowned the BCS Aged champion breaking four school records along the way. In Athletics, she is the 14 years Aged Champion breaking the high jump record and 1500m record. She is the Cross-Country aged Champion. Ivy competed at the Western District trials in Athletics, swimming, Cross Country and Touch football reflecting her versatility across a range of disciplines. She was placed 3rd I in the high jump at the Western Region trials. Ivy represented the Western Area in swimming competing in the NSW Combined High Schools swimming championships. Ivy was an integral part of the Boorowa relay teams that competed at the State Championships against older opposition. Ivy was part of the Championship winning under 16 touch football team and competes in League tag, netball and cricket.

The joint winners were Isabella Piper and Eliza Taylor. Both these girls are following very similar paths in their sporting careers. Both are now team members in the Canberra Raiders Tarsha Gale Under 19’s side and both are just one step away from playing in the Women’s National Rugby League. Both girls have been swimming aged champions at their respective schools, and both have been Aged Champions in Athletics at their respective schools. Both girls have also played representative Rugby Union. It’s easy to see why the judges couldn’t split these two nominations. Eliza and Isabella are an inspiration to Boorowa’s younger sports stars, and we wish them well in the coming season for the Canberra Raiders.
Club Person of the Year
The winner is Tim Gregory of the Boorowa Rugby Club. Tim is a worthy winner of this award being voted Club person of the year by the Boorowa Rugby Club in their Premiership winning 2025 season. He is a committee member and the team strapper for both the men’s and women’s teams. He also assisted with the coaching sessions for the women’s team. Tim is often the first to arrive at the ground to assist with game day set ups and is often the last to leave. He is a no fuss committee person who just gets the job done. He is a valued member of the Boorowa Rugby Club and the wider community.
Team Of the Year
We had two outstanding nominations Boorowa Central School Under 16 Girls Touch Football Team nominated by Boorowa Central School for becoming Central Schools State Championship winners. Boorowa Goldies Rugby Union Team nominated by the Boorowa Rugby Club who won the Central West Rugby Union Southwest Fuels Cup taking all before them losing just once during the season.
The winner being The BCS Under 16’s Girls Touch Football team. This team overcame huge odds against much larger schools to win the State Championship. The team had a squad of just nine players which was reduced to eight towards the end of their campaign. Initially they had to win the Southern Zone, which they did without conceding a single try. They then progressed to the State Championship in Dubbo. They conceded their only loss in the first round by one try before they showed their resilience to win their next four games to win the title. They conceded just three tries in seven matches whilst scoring thirty-six tries including a 9-0 victory in the final match to clinch the NSW Central Schools championship.
