President of the Boorowa Australia Day Committee Sharon Meere, Citizen of the Year, Angus Clements, Junior Ambassador Isla Merrett, BCS School Captains, Belle Riles and Mylee Taylor and Ambassador Mel Thomas.
On Monday, January 26, Boorowa celebrated Australia Day with classic country community fun. Events took place mainly at the Boorowa Recreation Grounds, starting at 8am. Breakfast was provided by the Lions Club, plus a kids’ fishing competition.
The official ceremony began at 9:30am, featuring Australia Day Ambassador Mel Thomas (founder of the KYUP! Project, which helps young people with self-worth and safety). She gave an inspiring talk. There were out many local awards – the most in the Hilltops area – recognising people for community service, sport, youth work, and environmental efforts.

Lions/Apex Boorowa Citizen of the Year – Angus Clements
The Len & Joan Oxley Memorial Award – Dawn Barton
Rotary Young Achiever of the Year – Mackella Pye and Jack Fahey
Senior Sportsperson of the Year – Isabella Piper and Eliza Taylor
Junior Sportsperson of the Year (18 years and under) – Ivy Taylor
Junior Sportsperson of the Year (12 years and under) – Digby Merriman
Sporting Team of the Year – Boorowa Central School Under 16 Girls Touch Football Team
Club Person of the Year – Tim Gregory
Community Awards – Darrell Armour, Graeme Chown, Christine Coble, Bernadette McGrath and Lillian and Gary Southwell
After the ceremony a community luncheon was held at 12:30pm at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club. Fun activities throughout the day included, the popular Rotary Rubber Duck Race, a 9-hole golf competition and free entry to the swimming pool. It was a relaxed, family-friendly day full of local pride, good food, games, and community spirit – a perfect small-town way to mark Australia Day.
