After another strong season of fast-paced hoops action, the Boorowa Basketball Association is preparing to wrap up its 2025 competition with finals beginning next week, followed by grand finals and a community presentation night to celebrate the season’s success.
President of the Boorowa Basketball Association, Mitch Leslie, says it’s been a positive and competitive season across all age groups, with a particular highlight being the strong turnout in the junior competition.
“We’ve had a very good season so far,” said Leslie. “We’re averaging around 26 juniors a week, which is really, really exciting. The energy they bring each week is fantastic for the club.”
The senior competitions have also rolled on smoothly, with both the men’s and women’s teams showing strong spirit and sportsmanship.
“No injuries so far, touch wood and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves,” Leslie added. “There’s definitely some excitement building as we head into finals. The competition has been tight, and there’s a lot of anticipation for the grand finals coming up.”
While numbers have dipped slightly in the senior comp compared to previous years, down around four or five players, Leslie says the level of enthusiasm has remained high.
“People are still turning up and giving it a go, which is what local sport is all about. It’s a community atmosphere, and we’ve got a good bunch of players.”
The season will culminate in a presentation night at the end of August, which is open to all players, supporters, and community members. “The cost is just $20, and that includes a couple of drinks and a meal,” said Leslie. “It’s a great way to wrap up the season, acknowledge everyone’s effort, and just enjoy a night together.”
Looking ahead, the Association is exploring the idea of expanding and strengthening the competition by connecting with nearby towns.
“We’ve been thinking about an amalgamated comp with Young Pacers, and possibly involving teams from Harden and Yass too,” Leslie explained. “There’s definitely interest out there, and the hope is to create some new matchups and maybe even travel for games.”
The next competition is scheduled for March 2026, and expressions of interest will be sought from neighbouring towns keen to get involved. For now, though, all eyes are on finals and the celebration that follows.
