Real Stories, Real Impact: TIMBA Mental Health Event Comes to Boorowa This JuNE

This Is My Brace Australia organisers Ang Hart and Lyn Diskon.

Boorowa will soon host a powerful evening of courage, connection, and community as This Is My Brave Australia (TIMBA) brings its unique mental health storytelling event to town on June 15th. Tickets are on sale now, with general admission priced at just $20 and concession tickets available for $5.

The national charity, known for its impactful live shows featuring everyday people sharing their lived experiences with mental illness, is making its Hilltops debut with a cast of six local speakers from Boorowa, Young, and Cowra.

While the original lineup included eight participants, two have withdrawn due to personal reasons, but organiser Tim Daly says the remaining cast is more committed than ever.

“These six individuals are incredibly brave,” Daly said. “They’ve each lived through mental health challenges, and now they’re stepping onto a stage to help others know they’re not alone. Their stories are raw, honest, and incredibly moving.”

The event, which combines storytelling with mental health advocacy, is designed to break down stigma and spark open conversations in a supportive environment. It’s a concept that has resonated across the country, and Daly hopes the Boorowa show will leave a lasting impact on the local community.

“I know firsthand how damaging it can be to keep silent,” said Daly, who has his own experience with mental illness.

“The longer you bottle things up, the worse it gets. These kinds of events create a space where people feel seen, heard, and validated.”

For several cast members, this will be their first time speaking publicly about their mental health journey, an act Daly describes as both vulnerable and courageous.

“We’ve had a few rehearsals now, and yes, the nerves are there,” he said.

“But there’s also excitement. They know their words might be exactly what someone in the audience needs to hear.”

More than just a performance, the evening will be a community gathering with purpose. Daly encourages locals to come along, bring a friend, and be part of something bigger than just a night out.

“This event is about listening, learning, and showing support. Because when we share our stories, we invite others to do the same. And that’s where healing starts.”
