As Boorowa Central School marks a remarkable 155 years of education, a heartfelt initiative is underway to honour its long-standing legacy, and the community is invited to be a part of it, one brick at a time.
In celebration of the school’s rich history, Boorowa Central is launching a commemorative wall project, made entirely of personalised bricks. These bricks, available for purchase at $35 each, will form a permanent feature at the front of the school, symbolising generations of learning, community, and connection. You can purchase a brick using the QR code on the ‘Boorowa Central School’ Facebook page.
Principal Graham Jones, who has been a driving force behind the initiative, described the project as a legacy not only for current students but also for future generations.

“As principal, I really wanted to leave something meaningful behind,” Mr. Jones said. “The 155-year celebration is special to us. We missed the chance to fully celebrate our 150th anniversary due to COVID, so this is our way of making up for that—something lasting that everyone can be part of.”
The commemorative wall will be constructed near the school’s front office, where students, staff, alumni, and community members alike will be able to see their names etched into Boorowa’s his-tory.
“We’re inviting anyone who has had any connection with the school past students, staff, families, friends to get involved,” Mr. Jones said. “It’s not about profit the $35 per brick is close to cost of the brick itself. It’s about community and remembrance.”

The project has already sparked interest across the region, with many locals excited about leaving their mark. So don’t miss out on this opportunity. The initiative also includes plans to bury a time capsule at the site, to be unearthed during the school’s 175th anniversary celebrations two decades from now.
“The community really embraced the idea,” Mr. Jones added. “The wall will serve as a visual re-minder of all those who have walked through our doors, and the time capsule will give future students a glimpse into today’s world.”

While the brick campaign is a central feature of the celebrations, the school is also exploring other fundraising opportunities and sponsorship options to support the project and broader anniversary events. With its deep roots in the region and a future-focused outlook, Boorowa Central School’s commemorative wall is more than just bricks and mortar it’s a tribute to a proud past and a promise to the future.
For those looking to cement their connection to the school, this may be the perfect time to, quite literally, “buy a brick” of Boorowa history.
