The poultry competition at the 2025 Boorowa Show was filled with excitement and energy, as families and enthusiasts gathered to admire a record number of chickens, ducks, and geese. Among the highlights of the day were the impressive Talbot children, who took home multiple awards for their outstanding poultry exhibits.
Kellie Talbot, a passionate young poultry exhibitor, was awarded the Most Successful Junior Poultry Exhibitor. Her dedication and enthusiasm for poultry farming have made her a standout in the competition.
Her older sister, Kalanie, also earned recognition, winning the Champion Junior poultry title. Their younger siblings, Georgia and Grayson, were also part of the family effort, showcasing their birds with pride.

The Talbot family, based in Boorowa, is deeply involved in poultry farming through their group, K&G Poultry. “We breed and show poultry as a family,” said Kaylie Talbot, the proud mother of the young competitors.
“We focus on rare breeds and travel all over the country to show our birds. It’s great to support local shows like Boorowa’s, and the kids love being part of it all.”
Preparing birds for the competition is a time consuming and meticulous process. “It’s a lot of work,” Kaylie explained. “You need to find birds that are in feather, clean them, and ensure they are in a clean environment. The kids do a fantastic job getting them ready for show day.”
Despite the challenges of preparing their birds during a tough time of year, when it’s harder to find birds in full feather, the Talbot children succeeded in bringing their best chickens to the competition. Kaylie shared, “It’s a difficult time to get birds ready, but the kids did great finding birds that were suitable.”

Kellie, Kalanie, Georgia, and Grayson take pride in the process and the challenge of managing their birds. “They love the challenge,” Kaylie said. “It’s something they can carry with them into adulthood. Watching their excitement as they see the judge and hear the feedback is a real joy.”
This year’s competition featured poultry judge Wayne Rigby, who has judged shows across the country.
“We try to keep it fair by bringing in judges from outside the local area,” Kaylie explained, adding that new participants also made the competition more exciting.
Thanks to the support of Nick Burton Taylor, who sponsors the junior poultry awards, and the efforts of dedicated volunteers, the poultry pavilion was a highlight of the 2025 Boorowa Show.
As we reflect on the show, it’s clear that the future of poultry farming is in capable hands with young exhibitors like the Talbot children.
We look forward to seeing what they bring to next year’s competition.
