Taking a win on their home soil against the Condobolin Rams with 52-14, the Goldies are hot on the heels of the Harden Red Devils, who currently command top spot on the ladder.
Making their debuts, Bob Dylan and Elliot Southwell had their hands full against Condo – one of this season’s dark horses.
Praised by the Rams as a “disciplined, experienced outfit with a forward pack full of absolute fridge freezers”, the Goldies took a hold of the ball almost immediately, keeping the Rams on their toes.
Although to Goldies opened the scoring early they missed the conversion and found themselves chasing the rams who found themselves leading 14-5 40 minutes in. At this point, several fingernails may have been chewed off by the premier supporters.
Hitting back at the Rams with three converted tries before halftime, the Goldies took the lead with 26-14.
Although the Rams gave it a cracking shot to make the difference, Boorowa cleared the match with 52-14.
Although the Rams said they were sad to see the scoreboard reflecting their stellar effort, they did say the match was one of the “fastest, cleanest and classiest games of country rugby we’ve seen in a long time”.
The Goldies now prepare for their match against the Grenfell Panthers on their home turf on Saturday, June 20.
