The Boorowa Showgrounds upgrades have already seen interest from Southern NSW Team Sorting who will be bringing their event to Boorowa on 11 to 12 April.
Team Sorting is a sport that combines horses and cattle in a fun and competitive environment. The team behind it promise exciting, fast-paced action.
Entries opened on Wednesday, March 18.
Entry costs are:
Open $60 per day = $130 for the entire weekend.
Camping and use of facilities = $10 per open rider.
Juniors $30 per day = $60 for the entire weekend.
Secretary of Southern NSW Team Sorting, Emma Derwent, said it was an exciting event to finally bring to Boorowa.
“Team sorting is a sport that involves two people in the yard, and they sort a mob of cattle numbered from zero to nine,” she said.
“It’s a fun event to bring families and friends together, but also, we do it as it is a competitive sport.”
Run under Southern New South Wales Team Sorting Incorporated, the event has points and prizes, however Emma says their biggest priority is in bringing the community together.
“It’s been running for probably nearly 20 years in the Southern New South Wales area,” she says.
“It used to run in Boorowa a few years ago, but it stopped. Our committee has now decided to run another event, and we’ve wanted to use the new facilities at Boorowa.”
Within Boorowa, Emma says a lot of their community members enjoy travelling to different towns, and with event locations in Crookwell, Goulburn, Taralga, Yass and Gunning, she says it brings the locals in to try something new in a different sport with their horses.
“It’s good for the community, it’s good for people,” she says.
“We encourage people to come down, have a look and see what it’s all about. We’re really into having new people come and join.
If there are any locals who want to get amongst it, they’re more than welcome to come and join. It is a lot of fun. We love doing it. It’s for the community.”
Several of their members, she says, have been doing it for 20 years as a family, and always enjoy introducing new people.
“We do get sponsors with it over time, so we get support in that way, but it’s good to see locals and the community coming down to watch, because it gets people talking about it and brings more events,” she says.
“The more people we have coming to do it means that we can do more events because people want to get involved. A lot of it is just volunteers. We take a lot of our own time to do this.”
