Boorowa’s junior cricketers finished the 25/26 season with a bang with both Under 11’s teams.
recording good victories in the last game of the season. There are no semi finals in the under 11’s but both sides were very competitive all competition.
The Boorowa Greens took on the Harden Hornets at the Boorowa recreation ground, scoring a massive 105 run victory. Boorowa amassed an imposing 182 runs for the Hornets to chase. The Hornets could only muster 87 off their twenty overs in reply. For Boorowa Angus Burton Taylor with 23 and George Manion with 28 were the chief run makers. Kaine Manion scored 22 whilst Lachlan Halls 13 and Maxwell Burton-Taylor 12 played useful cameos. The Hornets never really threatened the Greens total and were restricted by some good Boorowa bowling. George Manion completed a good double taking 3/6 as did Angus-Burton Taylor with 2/13. Other wicket takers were Ned Halls 2/8, Oscar Shean 2/8, Arthur Allen 1 /4, and Maxwell Burton-Taylor 1/9.
The game between the Boorowa Golds and the Cootamundra Sixers was a much tighter match. Boorowa Gold made a reasonable 113 and in reply the Sixers made 97 from 20 overs. The pick of the Gold batting line up was Thomas Scott with 19 with all players contributing some runs.
Defending a modest total, the Gold bowlers did an excellent job in containing the Sixers. The most successful of the Boorowa bowlers was Patrick Corcoran with 2/8. Charlotte Corcoran with 1/5 and William Griffin 1/7 were also impressive.
Meanwhile the under 13’s had the bye in the last round and whilst they narrowly missed the semi-finals, they had an impressive season. They were punching above their weight with some younger players who will go around in the under 13’s next season.
It was a disappointing end to the season for the senior team who unfortunately had to forfeit their minor semi-final. They had several players unavailable and most that were available hadn’t played enough games to qualify for the finals. But there is always next season and with a few juniors blooded into the senior side this season, the future of Boorowa cricket looks bright at both senior and junior levels.
