Touch Netball Carnival Delivers Strong Support for Local Schools
The annual Boorowa Touch Netball Carnival, held in October 2025, was once again a fantastic day for our community. Thanks to the incredible efforts of volunteers, a substantial amount was raised to support students at both St Joseph’s School Boorowa and Boorowa Central School.
The funds raised will go directly toward improving learning opportunities for our students. At St Joseph’s, the money has helped upgrade smartboards in classrooms, enhancing everyday teaching and learning.
At Boorowa Central School, funds will be used for classroom resources and excursion subsidies, helping ensure students can access valuable experiences beyond the classroom. For a small rural community, support like this plays an important role in making sure our students have opportunities comparable to those available in larger centres.
Across the day, 489 games of touch football and 396 games of netball were played — a huge effort from players, referees, teachers and organisers. The canteen and coffee stands were busy from start to finish, with parents, teachers and even students giving up their time to make coffees, cook sausages and chop Zooper Doopers. Every dollar raised came from volunteers donating their time and energy on the day.
We are incredibly thankful to Bango Wind Farm and Rye Park Wind Farm for their generous grants, which assisted with major costs such as traffic management, first aid officers and the hire of additional toilets. These are essential expenses for an event of this size, and without that support it would be very difficult to justify holding the carnival.
We also sincerely thank Hilltops Council for their ongoing support of the event and for ensuring the showground facilities were presented in such neat and tidy condition. Their work behind the scenes makes a real difference to the success of the day.
And the last, but certainly not ‘least’ thank you must go to the respective Parents and Citizen’s associations at both schools who spent many hours ordering and preparing food, drinks and snacks for the carnival and ensured that additional BBQ’s, fridges, freezers etc were transported to the showground.
The carnival also receives funding from a golf day held by the Boorowa Goldies Rugby Union and Rovers Rugby League clubs. The Touch Netball committee has recently decided to invest some of these funds into upgrading the PA system at the showground. This improvement will benefit all community groups who use the facility and is a small way of giving back to the broader community that supports us so generously.
The carnival continues to be a wonderful example of what can be achieved when schools and community work together.
