Bottles Skipper Brendon Shean Smashes a Century.
A stunning century by skipper Brendon Shean, paved the way for the Boorowa Bottles to record a crucial win to end the regular season on a positive note. Brendon opened the innings and blasted nine sixes and twenty fours in an innings that was simply brutal. He was dismissed late in the run feast that saw the Bottles amass 4/292 off their 40 overs.
For the first time all season, Boorowa won the toss and had no hesitation in batting on the synthetic wicket and a fast outfield. Boorowa set up the big target with an opening partnership between Shean and James Green of 171. The pair were conservative in building the innings reaching 0-110 at twenty overs and drinks. However, after the break, Brendon in particular, put the Tigers to the sword with some massive blows. Green provided the anchor role whilst making a fine 60 ensuring that the rest of the batting line up could really put the hammer down.
Green and Ollie Miller were dismissed with consecutive deliveries, but it was a minor hiccup at 2/171. Justin Flannery joined Shean at the party, with this pair adding a further 103 for the third wicket. Brendon was dismissed on 170 shortly before the 40 overs were complete having left the Temora bowlers surveying the carnage.
Temora faced a massive task, but they were second on the ladder for a reason and weren’t about to die wondering. They started poorly losing Samuel Yates for a golden duck before Mark Yates and Richard Potter combined for a 67-run stand when Yates fell for 58 in 38 Balls. Potter was brutal when he came to the crease attacking the bowling.
By the halfway point of the innings, the Tigers were still a good chance for victory at 2/152. Requiring another 141 off 20 overs, the Bottles had to strike, and it was James Payne who snared Lincoln MacCauley for 30. At 4/208 with Potter still at the crease on 86, the Tigers seemed to be on target for an unlikely win, but it was Boorowa’s king of swing, Ben Klose who drove the dagger into the Tigers heart on the back of a great catch by James Payne.
The Tigers were valiant but just couldn’t maintain the run rate with the tail falling away to be all out for 235. It was a brave effort from the Tigers who made the Bottles earn their sixth win of the year.

In Junior cricket, the under 11’s saw a fantastic match between the Boorowa Greens and Harden that went right down to the wire. The Greens posted a moderate score of 131 before restricting the Hornets to 127 for the victory by just four runs. Top Scorers for Boorowa were Lachlan Halls with 29 and Angus Burton-Taylor 15. The wicket takers for the Greens were Ned Halls 2/19, Lachlan Halls 1/3, Kaine Manion 1/22 and Angus Burton Taylor 1/3.
Meanwhile the Boorowa Golds under 11’s had their hands full with the Young Warriors posting a large total of 204. It was always going to be tall order for the Golds batting, but they went down swinging as the reached a final total of 150.
Best of the Boorowa Batting was George Manion who has been amongst the runs all season with 43. He had good support from William Griffin 31and Thomas Scott 16. George Manion had a good day with the ball as well with 2/4, with William Griffin 1/12 and Thomas Dwyer 1/20.
The under 13’s played their final match of the season going down the Arthur Stacey Stars by 17 runs. The Stars scored a respectable 7/148 off their allotted overs. Wicket takers for Boorowa were Patrick Smth 1/1, Beau Taylor 1/13, Alfie Shean 1/11, George Kelly 1/21, Jacob Halls 1/10, and Thomas Lawler 1/12.
In reply, Boorowa just fell short at 8/131. Top Scorers for Boorowa were Digby Merriman 31, Jacob Halls 17, Octavian Miller 18, and Thomas Lawler 16.
The under 13’s have the bye in the last round and will miss the semi-finals, but it has been a sensational season for all involved. This side has punched above its weight all competition and with many players to back up again next season, the future looks bright.
This week, both under 11’s will play their last match of the year. Boorowa Gold will travel to Bradman Oval in Cootamundra whilst the Greens will take on the Harden Hornets.
Meanwhile the Bottles are scheduled to take on the Bin Chicken at the recreation oval this Saturday.
