Last Saturday’s senior cricket saw the Boorowa bottles on the wrong side of a run feast against the Burrangong Cubs in Young. The Cubs took out the match on a better run rate with the game eventually called off early due to a later afternoon storm.
The Cubs won the toss and had no hesitation on a good pitch and fast outfield. They got away to a fast start reaching 72 before the first wicket fell.
The Boorowa bowling attack just couldn’t get on top of the batsmen at any real stage as Burrangong continued to score at eight runs an over. The Bottles used nine different bowlers in a bid to stem the run flow.
For Burrangong, the best of the Batsmen was Geoff Palmer who fell just short of a ton on 97. He was well supported by Jack Nicholls with an entertaining 71 and Jack Shea 54. The Cubs innings ended at 6/322 in 40 overs. It was the second time this season the Cubs had passed 300 against the Bottles. For Boorowa, Ben Klose took 3/53, James Payne 1/45, Liam Birks 1/53, and Aaron Ludwig 1/19.
In reply, Boorowa began steadily against a handy Cubs bowling attack.
The Bottles lost their first wicket on 32 in the eight over. Boorowa had to keep taking risks to attempt a challenge at the massive score but as the run rate required climbed so did the wicket tally as they slumped to 8/75.
Boorowa weren’t about to make life too easy for the Cubs with Ben Klose and Aaron Ludwig putting on 70 for the ninth wicket before Ben perished on 29. At 9/152, Boorowa required a miracle 171 off twelve overs with just one wicket left when the rain came tumbling down in fading light. They may not have won but they did make the Cubs work for it. Aaron Ludwig completed a good double making a solid 43 not out.
In the Under 13’s, Boorowa also had a tough day going down to the Colts by 104 runs. Boorowa were 8/93 in response to the Colts 5/197. Best of the Boorowa batsmen was Patrick Smith 23 not out, whilst Octavian Miler 16 and Jacob Halls 12 made useful contributions. In the bowling department, Archer Dowling took 2/15 whilst Jacob Halls 1/21, William Miller 1/16 and Luje Van Leeuwen 1/38 were the successful wicket takers.
The Under 11’s faired a little better with the Greens picking up a victory against Cootamundra winning by 81 runs. Boorowa made 158 whilst in reply Cootamundra made 77. For Boorowa, George Manion led the way with 24 and received good support from Angus Burton-Taylor 14. The Boorowa bowlers were exceptional with Kaine Manion taking 3/6, Ned Halls 1/9, George Manion 1/5, Oscar Shean 1/5, and Lachlan Halls 1/5.
The Boorowa Golds went down to the Young Smashes by 61 runs. Young made a 156 runs off their allotted 20 overs and in reply the Golds made 95, Best of the Golds batsmen were Jack Corcoran, Patrick Corcoran, and Wil Griffin.
In the bowling Jack Corcoran 1/9, Thomas Dwyer 1/9, Wiliam Griffin 16, and Thomas Scott 1/9 impressed.
This week in senior cricket the Bottles have the bye, before returning home for their final regular season game against the Temora Ex-Services Club.
Boorowa currently sit in sixth position out of eleven teams so there is plenty at stake for a number of sides in the next two weeks.
The Under 13’s will play the Ariah Park Red Backs at Barry Grace Oval at Wallendbeen.
The Under 11’s will see the Boorowa Greens play the Young Warriors in Boorowa, whilst the Boorowa Golds will also be at home against Cootamundra.
