The Boorowa Sports Advisory Committee’s inaugural meeting was held on 14 October, followed by a second meeting on 18 November, which resulted in a number of requests.
These are:
(a) Itself, formally endorses the conversion of the southern portion of the Boorowa Showground into a functional, grassed multi-purpose facility suitable for athletics and sports, including rugby league, rugby union, touch football, and other sports;
(b) Requests that Hilltops Council investigate formal costings and a construction plan for the development of this facility, including but not limited to the extension of irrigation infrastructure, ground levelling, and turf establishment;
(c) Requests that Hilltops Council engage its Grants Officer to actively identify and apply for relevant state, federal, or philanthropic funding opportunities to support the timely delivery of the project;
(d) Seeks Council’s assistance in project planning, stakeholder consultation, and any necessary regulatory or development approvals, to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure efficient progression through required government processes; and
(e) Request Council urgently review the condition of the amenity block, as next to the netball courts and next to the Grandstand and allocate a budget for this purpose.
In response to the request for Council to review the condition of the amenity block next to the netball courts and next to the Grandstand, the General Manager has responded that Council staff have inspected the toilet block next to the netball courts. Whilst they are functional, they are not designed and do not have hydraulic capacity for the number of people who attend the Boorowa Touch and Netball Carnival, which was a main concern raised by the group.
It was also said that the Grandstand requires significant funds for capital repairs, for which there is currently no budget.
Council discussed this matter at its meeting on Wednesday, November 26.
The next meeting of the Boorowa Showground Sports Advisory Group is to be 6.00 pm on Tuesday, 3 February in the Boorowa Chambers, meaning there will be over 2 months before they can consider Council’s response.
