This Saturday sees one of the most important days on the local league calendar when the Boorowa Rovers host their annual Ladies Day.
This year, proceeds will go to the Bee Centre which is one of Boorowa’s essential organisations that provides early education for local children.
Whilst Boorowa doesn’t have a league tag team this year, the ladies within the club and com-munity are doing a tremendous job behind the scenes and this is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate. The game is at 2.30pm but all the fun of ladies’ day will commence earlier at 2pm.
For comfort, we have the luxury of the new pavilion where there will be drinks and nibbles. There will be loads of raffle prizes on offer and after the game, the party will continue with Live Music at the Courthouse Hotel.
Event organiser and Rovers secretary Maddi Corkery says the day is a chance to give back to the women who play a vital but often unseen role in local sport, while also making a difference in the community.
“This year we decided to support someone local and the Boorowa Early Education Centre was the perfect fit,” said Maddi. “We’re hoping to raise some much-needed funds and at the same time celebrate the amazing women who support our club whether they’re mums, wives, sisters, volunteers or fans.”
Tickets for the event are $45 for adults, which includes drinks, canapés, food platters, and entry into the raffle. For under 18s, tickets are $15, with soft drinks provided. All ticket prices include a donation to the Early Education Centre. Guests can expect a fun and festive atmosphere with live music by local duo Jason and Tori, who will be performing throughout the afternoon.
“Last year’s event was a great success, and we’re hoping for another fantastic turnout this year,” said Maddi.
The Rovers will be facing off against the Bungendore Tigers in what promises to be an exciting game starting at 2.30pm, with the Ladies Day kicking off just before at 2pm.
The Goldies will also be playing that weekend, drawing even more rugby fans to the showground. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the afternoon, with the draw taking place after the men’s game.
This year’s raffle prizes are some of the best yet, with generous donations from a range of local businesses.
“We’ve got a Camilla Duffy photo session voucher, a wine tasting and grazing board for two at Grove Estate, tasting paddles at Bulla Creek, and vouchers from Kinsfolk and Girl with the Garden,” Maddi shared. “There’s also a hamper full of goodies, Rovers merchandise, and more.”
Maddi expressed her gratitude to all the local businesses that contributed prizes. “A huge thank you to our incredible local businesses who have so generously donated. We are so grateful for your support.”
On the field, this weekend will be the Rovers biggest test as far as they take on the defending champions, the Bungendore Tigers. Both sides are yet to taste defeat although the Tigers were held to a 24 all draw against Binalong. The battle of the forward packs will be crucial in the outcome of this game. Bungendore have a battle hardened tough mobile pack, at the same time Boorowa also has its own warriors in Alex Stewart, Hamish Scott and Matt Canellis who know how to win big games. Throw in players such as the experienced Murray Armour and Will Sullivan coming off the bench as impact players and the pack has a formidable look.
The Boorowa backline has been on fire in the first three games running riot on the back of the forward pack’s excellent work. Austin Power at fullback has been untouchable, and Will Fahey has also been elusive. Charlie Fogg has been a revelation on the wing. Zac Paterson has been strong in his return but will face a much tougher opposition against the Bungendore backline led by Michael Gordon and Co.
The Rovers will need to eliminate patches of poor discipline at times. They won’t be able to give the Tigers easy possession through costly penalties. Possession will be gold in this game which will be played in slippery frigid conditions. The defending Champions will start favourites in the game but with such a bright start to the season and with a huge home crowd expected, the Rovers should sneak home in a thriller.
Goal kicking may just prove the difference with Cooper Cross having plenty of practice and success in the first three games.
n other games this weekend. Harden host the Goannas, UC Stars host Crookwell, and the Snowy River Bears are home to Binalong. North Canberra has the bye.
Meanwhile, Boorowa’s Tom Jenkins continues to impress in the NRL, last week scoring a hat trick of tries for Penrith in their vital 18-14 win over the West Tigers. Tom is firmly entrenching himself in the first-grade team and continues to play a significant role for Penrith as they slowly work their way back up the NRL ladder after the Panthers horror start to the season. Penrith are sitting just one point outside the eight and certainly can’t be written off.
This will be the last chance to see the Rovers in action for a while as next week they begin a three-game stretch on the road on the road against Crookwell, Harden, and Binalong before returning home on July 19. We hope to see you at ladies’ day.
