Inset: Dr Asitha Wickramaratne MBBS, FRACGP, DCH
Residents and patients of the former Marsden Street medical practice are relieved this week to find out that Dr. Wick will be opening a new practice in the building where the previous centre closed on the 29th of November 2024 leaving the community of Boorowa as well as surrounding communities without the professional services of that practice.
The previous practice at one stage had as many as five or six doctors on site. As of now there is no specific time set for when the practice will be reopening, as it will be undergoing renovations and will be seeking to employ administrative staff.
After the sudden closure of the previous practice, there were issues with patients securing their medical records, and to this day, some of those issues have not been resolved.

An official statement from the ‘Marsden Street Medical Practice’ Facebook page states “We would like to inform you that records for patients are in question and are currently unaccounted for. It appears that the general practitioner may have discarded these records, but we cannot confirm this or determine their current location. We are actively trying to resolve this situation and are trying to locate the missing information. We understand that obtaining patient histories is of utmost importance, and resolving this issue is a high priority for us. We are working with a number of outside parties to try and resolve this issue.” All patient records that were transferred from Boorowa Medical Practice (Boorowa) to Boorowa Street Medical Practice (Young) can be returned to Marsden Street Medical Practice at no cost should the patient request it.

The advent of the new medical practice will now take the pressure off the Boorowa Hospital Medical Centre and will spread the load between local practitioners. Doctor Wick has occupied practices in both Muurumbateman, Young and the wider Yass community. He has been highly successful and made a big welcome into the tight-knit Boorowa community.
Contact details for the new practice are available on the Facebook page titled “Marsden Street Medical Practice” which is providing updates as they come to hand or by calling (02) 5300 1812.
