A Place For The Family To Get Up Close & Personal

Quamby Park Farm Stay and Petting Zoo heads into its 20th year of operation. The Zoo is open to the public every day through booking only and you can schedule a visit through their Facebook ‘Quamby Park Farm Stay & Petting Zoo’.

The Farm is located near Bendick Murrell and around 200 animals live there. Owner and manager of the farm for the past 20 years Janelle Cook, spoke about the farm operations.

“We were very busy recently working up towards Christmas but we are always quiet this time of the year with the heat and school going back. Our main time is spring and autumn of course when the weather is lovely. But we are here all year round and we are open seven days a week and prefer if you can book ahead just that we can make sure there is someone to show you around.”

Janelle started the farm back in 2005 has a herd of about 80 miniature goats.

“All the animals are hand raised.” Janelle said.

“We have about 55 acres and people can walk around the paddocks and the animals will come and flock around them. We also have more accessible areas for people who can’t walk out into the paddock. We have miniature horses for them to brush, also a calf for people to brush and bottle feed. Then there are the miniature goat babies. Depending on the time of the year we have bottle feeding and people can pick up and cuddle the babies.”

“There’s also about 30 miniature sheep. We have donkeys, horses and basically everything that you could expect to find on a farm.”

The core of Janelle’s business is the animals they are bred, raised and sold as pets to good homes.

“People buy off us for their hobby farms and they don’t want the big normal animal that you have to deal with the shearing and all that. I generally have a couple of calves every year and they are small breeds, Galloway, and I teach them to walk on the lead and people buy them.”

Being open to the public is what brings the most Joy to Janelle.

“I love seeing people come to the farm and have a wonderful time, seeing the joy and big beautiful smiles on everyone’s face is always lovely.”

She has been maintaining the herd for many years and consists mostly of female animals. “In my herd I have a lot of girls and I bring in different males over the years and then I sell them on and bring in new ones, so that is where my bloodline changes. The miniature goats have always been really good, people love them.”
