Rovers Primed for 2025

The Boorowa Rovers and Roverettes are primed and ready to roll in 2025 after the club held a successful Annual General Meeting last week.

With a couple of changes to the committee through retirements, the club is looking forward to a highly competitive and successful season in 2025.

Enjoying a relaxing off season, both teams are beginning to put their rosters together whilst the new committee looks to host another fun year for players and supporters.

The Rovers had an in-different 2024 season after winning the premiership in 2023.

Several players either left the club or retired after achieving the holy grail and whilst they were competitive, the Rovers were always going to struggle to reach the same heights as 2023. However, a new season is dawning and the hunger for success is back.

The Club has already appointed joint coaches for the Rovers and is building a very healthy roster. The coaches will be the incumbent Alex Stewart and young gun Cooper Cross, both of whom were part of the 2023 premiership side and are keen to taste success again. They have been busy in the off season so far recruiting some key players.

The numbers are already looking good as the squad looks toward commencing training in the New Year. The Roverettes will be prominent again, but a coach for 2025 is yet to be decided.

The committee has seen a couple of changes due to members stepping down from their roles. Chris McIntosh will continue in the President’s role that he has held for several seasons. His experience and vast array of contacts in the local footy landscape has been invaluable to the success of the club in recent seasons.

Outgoing secretary, Sharon Hinds has been involved with Boorowa League for two decades and has played a key role in the success achieved by the club in recent years. Sharon has worn many hats for the club and will no doubt enjoy watching the odd game from the stands.

The role of secretary will be filled by Maddi Corkery who has already been heavily involved in organising some successful off field activities last year.

The Treasurer’s role was also vacated with Mick Hinds stepping down from the position.

The Rovers are in a good space financially thanks largely to Mick’s splendid work. His replacement will be Peter Glover who has had plenty of experience in similar roles with other clubs. Club Stalwart Gavin Campbell elected to retire from the Vice President’s role which will be filled by long time player and committee man Justin Corkery, whilst Jock Corcoran will be Junior Vice President. Phil Coggins will continue in the role of Publicity/Media officer.

As far as the competition itself goes, there is still some uncertainty surrounding the make-up and format of the competition. Senior executives are this week, in consultation with Canberra Rugby League to resolve these questions with details to be released soon.

Cootamundra has indicated they will go back to Group Nine whilst newcomers Googong appear to be certainties to enter the competition.

There is still a lot to do for many clubs, but for Boorowa, the future looks bright both on and off the field. Stay tuned for more information on the competition and crucial dates for the local teams.

The annual trial game with Moruya will continue with dates to be confirmed.

As for the players, their biggest challenge will be going easy on the Christmas ham and beers before the tough pre-season training commences.

It’s going to be another big year of Rugby league in Boorowa so watch this space on how you can be a part of it.
