Cars on the Green 2024 done and dusted, thanks to everyone that brought their cars along today, there were some amazing machines on display. The bbq guys once again out did themselves and thanks for the wonderful sponsors. Thank you with your ongoing support and generosity this day wouldn’t happen and to the judges that give up their time to come and do a tough job thanks.
With four memorial trophies this year Cars on the Green thought it might be nice to see the beautiful faces behind the names.
Dr Sarah Cope – Car of the Show
Sarah loved life, cars and mostly her family. This amazing woman was someone that once you met her you never forgot her, she was a free spirit. Along with her husband Ian they built their beautiful hot rod together, Sarah was a huge supporter of Cars on the Green and it was only fitting when she passed from Cancer that this trophy be named after her.
Meggsie Hyde – Club Display of the Year
It is quite funny in a way, Meggs never owned a car or held a driver’s license in his life, but he was a club man through and through. Meggs lost his battle with dementia in early September. He was always the first person to sell a raffle ticket or cook a bbq in which ever club/organisation that needed it done, so when the idea of a Club trophy came up it was only fitting it was named after him.
Fred Penrose – Best Ute
Fred was a man who had an eye for detail, this was very evident in his beloved utes.
Fred passed away only a few months ago leaving a huge hole in his family and the local community, Fred worked along-side his son Steve at Penrose Motors Smash Repairs for many years, there are countless cars out there today restored over many painstaking hours by this father son duo.
Kim Lesslie – People’s Choice
Kim was a ball of energy, with a smile that lit up a room, her family were her pride and joy, Kim was never one to mix words so it was only fitting for the people’s choice award to be named after her. She once said that just because a car wasn’t the best in its category didn’t mean it wasn’t really cool and should still have a chance at winning a trophy.
