Boorowa Central School is reminding the community that time is running out to be part of a lasting tribute to its 155-year history. The school’s “Build a Brick” commemorative wall project is entering its final weeks, with the deadline for orders set for 25 June.
The initiative, launched as part of the school’s 155th anniversary celebrations, invites current and former students, staff, families, and supporters to purchase a personalised brick for $35. These engraved bricks will be laid in a permanent wall just inside the school’s main gates, near the iconic Bunya Bunya Pine, forming a powerful symbol of Boorowa’s proud educational heritage.
Principal Graham Jones, who has championed the idea since its inception, said the project is about creating something meaningful and permanent. “The 155-year celebration is special to us. We missed the chance to properly mark our 150th due to COVID, so this wall is our way of making up for that something tangible that generations can look back on,” he said.
The commemorative bricks have sparked interest not only within Boorowa but also across the wider region, as families with longstanding ties to the school see an opportunity to honour their connection in a unique way.
Each brick will be engraved with a name or message, becoming a piece of a larger story that spans over a century and a half.
“There’s still time to get involved,” the school said in a Facebook update earlier this week.
“Order forms are available online, and we encourage everyone with a connection to the school past or present to be part of this special project.”
The wall will be constructed near the front office, creating a welcoming and historical focal point for future students, staff, and visitors. Alongside the wall, the school also plans to bury a time capsule, which will be opened during the 175th anniversary celebrations in 2044.
With the June 25 deadline approaching fast, the school is urging those interested to act soon. Order forms are available via the Boorowa Central School Facebook page, and payments can be made via EFT.
