The Boorowa community is set to benefit from a significant funding boost, with $11,399.90 awarded to the Boorowa RSL Sub-Branch through the NSW Government’s Community War Memorials Fund. The grant will support much-needed conservation works to the local war memorial, ensuring the site remains a fitting and respectful tribute to the region’s servicemen and women.
The works, which include repairs to flooring and window frames, painting, and restoration of the brick fence, aim to preserve the structural integrity and dignity of the memorial for future generations.
The funding comes at a time of change for the Community War Memorials Fund, with a number of improvements recently announced for future rounds. From the 2025/26 funding round, there will now be one grant round per year, with the maximum available funding for individual projects increased to $15,000. In total, $250,000 in funding will be made available annually.
Another key update is the expansion of eligible works under Category B, which now includes upgrades to war memorial precincts, in addition to physical restoration works. Category A continues to cover assessments and conservation reports. These changes are designed to support more substantial and meaningful upgrades to war memorials across the state. Since its inception in 2008, the Community War Memorials Fund has supported hundreds of projects across NSW from honour roll restoration and cleaning of war memorials, to accessibility upgrades and tree conservation.
All applications are reviewed by the State War Memorials Committee, which includes representatives from RSL NSW, NSW Public Works, Heritage NSW, and the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs.
Applications for the 2025/26 round are now open, with community organisations encouraged to apply for eligible projects. This latest round of funding ensures that Boorowa’s memorial will continue to stand as a proud symbol of local service and sacrifice well-maintained, well-respected, and ready for generations to come.
