Juniors Aim for One/Two Finish

Two huge victories to the Boorowa Under 11’s cricket teams last Saturday now see them placed to finish first and second on the competition ladder with just the final round to be played this Saturday. Boorowa’s Gold and Green have been the best two teams in the competition all season. Last week the Greens dominated the Sixers winning by 129 runs. Best for Boorowa was Digby Merriman with 34 whilst Octavian Miller 26 and Patrick Smith 26 played useful knocks. The Sixers struggled to score runs against a solid Boorowa at-tack only managing 69 in 20 overs. Patrick Smith and Digby Merriman were the chief destroyers for Boorowa with 3 wickets each.

Bottles Eliminated

The Boorowa Bottles season ended last Saturday when they suffered a heart breaking 4 run defeat at the hands of the Cootamundra Ex-Services side. It was like the semi-finals had come a week early for these two teams with the winner securing the last spot in the finals whilst the loser looked towards footy season.

Boorowa had only won the toss once this season and nothing changed last Saturday. Having to field first, they contained Cootamundra to 5/65 after 16 overs.

The Bottles were looking to restrict Cootamundra to under 100 but a sixth wicket stand of 48 took Cootamundra well past the century. At 6/125 they were heading well past 150 before Boorowa cleaned up the tail cheaply taking 4/7 for an overall total of 132.

In reply, Boorowa lost Nathan Schofield early to be 1/8. A second wicket stand of 77 between Mark Birks and Jamie Golden put Boorowa in command at 1/85 until the turning point in the match. Mark Birks was tragically run out on 38. The dismissal started a devastating collapse. Boorowa lost 9/43 to fall agonisingly short by 4 runs to be dismissed for 128 in the final over.

Best of the Batsmen was Jamie Golden with 38 whilst Mark Birks also made 38. Ethan Robinson batted well, holding the innings together before he fell on 23. The loss meant the season was done for Boorowa whilst Cootamundra advanced to the elimination final against Temora Ex-Services this Saturday.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t to be for the Bottles who have struggled to get any momentum going this season. However, the 25/26 season is just seven months away and the Bottles will be back. With plenty of juniors coming through the ranks, the senior team will prosper again.
