In a bizarre game of local senior cricket last Saturday, it was the Boorowa Bottles who produced a Houdini like escape and in doing so, kept their semi-final chances alive. Early in the day Boorowa looked like absolute certain-ties to win the match against Temora Ex-Services Renegades, but a stunning collapse by left their season on a knife edge. The win means the Bottles move into fourth position in the C-Grade compe-tition and are now in control of their own destiny with three games remaining.
The day started with the traditional lost toss and Temora electing to bat. The Bottles should never play two up. Temora’s openers started cautiously on an unpredictable pitch that at times offered up some wicked bounce. Wil Stanley got the first breakthrough with Temora on 8. It was slow going for the Renegades who reached 3/34 at the first drinks break with 15 overs gone. A fourth wicket partnership of 42 gave the Temora innings some stability at they reached 3/58 before Liam Birks broke the stand. From there, Boorowa picked up wickets at regular intervals before eventually dismissing Temora for 94 in the 33rd over. Birks was the chief destroyer for Boorowa with 4/13 whilst Wil Stanley got 2/10. Ollie Miller, James Green, Will McGuiness and Phil Coggins all took one wicket each.
Chasing 95 for victory, Boorowa should have enjoyed a comfortable day with the bat requiring just two runs per over. However, it was anything but comfortable as the Temora opening bowlers ripped through the Bottles top order to have the innings in tatters at 5/7 inside 6 overs. Worse was to follow as Boorowa plummeted to 7/22 still requiring 73 runs to keep their season alive with just three wickets left. It was a fine eighth wicket stand of 58 between the experienced Blake Anderson and young gun Ollie Miller that dragged Boorowa out of a desperate situation. They reached 7/80 before Ollie was out on 27 after playing an innings of great maturity. Still requiring 15 for victory, Cameron Johnston played a cameo innings striking two quick boundaries including a six to win the game and keeping the Bottles finals hopes alive. Blake Anderson played a brilliant knock of 41 Not Out to guide the Bottles home.

Before the day commenced, Phil Coggins was presented with an engraved Mug to acknowledge his services to Boorowa Cricket for over 40 years. It was a special day for Coggo who debuted in 1981 and made even more special the team won, and he still managed to roll the arm over and jag a wicket on his 60th Birthday.
This week the Bottles return home to the recreation ground where they will take on the Temora Shamrocks. If the Bottles keep winning, they could even finish in the top two and a double chance in the finals. There is plenty of ability in the side and they are more than capable of mixing it with any team. However, their first priority is to stay in the top four.
We are getting to the pointy end of the season so why not make your way down to the recreation ground on Saturday and enjoy the festivities in Bay 13. It’s always a fun day with plenty of big hitting.
